NHS Future Forum calls on healthcare professionals to lead way on patient-centred care

Steve Field The NHS Future Forum has given its second set of reports to Health Secretary Andrew Lansley in which it sets out a series of recommendations to improve the quality of patient care and achieve better outcomes.
Future Forum Chair Professor Steve Field said:
‘We are making robust and ambitious recommendations to the NHS and to Government. We have heard an enormous amount of support for the shift to patient-centred care but also frustration that this has not yet been achieved. This must now become a reality for patients across England and health and social care professionals must lead the way.’
Telehealth solutions planned for COPD patients
The new service is expected to help reduce the number of unplanned emergency hospital admissions

NHS Oldham is to provide patients with advanced telehealth solutions that will support them in the management of their long-term conditions.
The programme will involve up to 150 patients who have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), who will benefit from being supported in their own homes by Tunstall’s telehealth solutions.
COPD patients have been selected initially based on national evidence showing the benefits of telehealth for patients with long-term conditions.
Many patients really value their relationship with their GP
Patients will be able to register with any GP: ministers
Patients will be able to register with a GP miles away from where they live under Coalition plans to give them greater choice, it has been announced.

People will be able to have a GP near work or keep the same family doctor when the move house as ministers abolish GP practice boundaries.
The scheme will be piloted in parts of London, Manchester and Nottingham despite concerns from family doctors about the continuity of care.
