Former Norwich day centre removed from auction as battle to keep it for the community continues

A former city day centre has been removed from an auction after campaigners secured extra time to keep it for the community.

The Silver Rooms, in Silver Road, had been given a guide price of £75,000-plus and was due to be available at an auction on Thursday, February 14.

But the Norfolk County Council-owned building has been added to Norwich City Council’s asset of community value list.

This means community groups have until March 15 to express an interest in the site. If a bid is judged to be valid then a further six months will be made available for groups to raise cash – before it then goes to auction.

Department seeks views on NICE standards to improve quality of social care

Care and Support Minister Norman Lamb, today launched a 12 week consultation to establish a full set of NICE quality standards and guidance for social care.

The Department is seeking ideas from care users, their families and carers, service commissioners, care providers and front line staff to help decide on future topics for NICE guidance and standards.

The aim is to establish a full set of NICE quality standards and guidance in order to improve the quality of social care.

The Government wants your views for the Draft Care and Support Bill

Draft Care and Support Bill forum

The Joint Committee on the draft Care and Support Bill, chaired by Paul Burstow MP, is conducting pre-legislative scrutiny of the draft Bill and has set up this web forum to hear the views of carers.

The Committee would like to hear about your experiences as a carer and what impact you think the Government’s proposed legislation might have on your own situation, either positive or negative. Your comments will help inform the recommendations the Committee makes to the Government in their report.

The draft Bill covers a number of areas relating to care and support but the Committee would particularly like to hear the views of carers on three key areas. This forum will close on 22 February.

Responsibilities of local authorities

The draft Bill proposes a ‘broader care and support role’ for local authorities. What impact do you think the proposed changes will have on the role of local authorities? Will the proposed changes help carers?
