A DISABLED woman has been left lying in her own urine and faeces after her care support was suddenly stopped.

Janis Milner, 33, of Stainland, has been tearful and distressed since being left without any dignity since Saturday.

Her commode was left overflowing and she has had to use her washing-up bowl.

A DISABLED couple who dedicate their lives to looking after each other have hailed the start of a new “life-saving” support group.

Mandy Maddock and her husband Alun are both blind and depend on each other to get through everyday life by being each other’s carers.

  1. Alun and Mandy Maddock, who live in East Croydon, are both blind and care for each other. They said the Disabled Parents and Carers Together group would be ‘invaluable’

The couple, from East Croydon, say there is not enough support for disabled carers but have welcomed the idea of a new group which has been set up to specifically help them and others in similar situations.

The Disabled Parents and Carers Together (DPACT) group has been set up to offer help, guidance and a listening ear to those who look after other people while having a disability themselves.

Young disabled test London transport ahead of Olympics

Saturday 21 April 2012

As young people from Whizz-Kidz set out to test London’s buses, trains and boats for disabled users in Olympic year, its Kidz Board delivers a transport manifesto for No Go Britain.

There are 70,000 disabled children and young people living in the UK. This summer, many of them will be hoping to travel to London for the Olympics and Paralympic Games.

Today, 10 young people from Whizz-Kidz, some in wheelchairs, are taking part in a practise journey to London’s Olympic stadium.

You can follow @nogobritain on Twitter to see how they get on.

Writing for Channel 4 News, the group’s Kidz Board members outline what they would like to see improved in transport accessibility, as we head toward the biggest sporting events on earth.

Accessibility

All buses to be power-wheelchair and manual-wheelchair accessible. All taxis to have not just ramps, but ramps that a powered-wheelchair and manual-wheelchair can use safely.
