Kent social care cuts affect thousands

Carers’ supporters said the changes would affect the most vulnerable people

 

 Councillor Graham Gibbens said the council had to make less money go as far as possible

More than 3,000 people in Kent will be affected by cuts in social care services for adults in their own homes.

Kent County Council (KCC) will charge for mental health services, day care and transport for the first time and reduce other payments.

The changes, approved on Friday, will cut council spending by £3m a year.

The Brookdale Club plans an action packed month raising money for local charity ‘Signpost Stockport for Carers’ culminating in the Presidents annual Charity Day on 25 June held at the clubhouse on Bridge Lane, when it opens its doors to all.

 

Brookdale raises money for careers‘Signpost Stockport for Carers’ is an independent charity, established in 1986, which provides free, confidential information to unpaid carers of all ages and ethnicity, and professionals who work with carers, in the Stockport area.

The Brookdale’s President, Peter Browne says ‘he was very moved by the way the charity improves carers’ lives throughout the borough of Stockport and in line with the club’s policy of actively supporting the local community was delighted to be associated with such a worthwhile local charity’.
