Infrastructure and Capital Investment Secretary Alex Neil told MSPs the Energy Assistance Package (EAP) will be extended to up to 7,000 people on carers allowance.

Millions to Go on Health Personal Budgets

The concept is widely used in social services to enable people to employ their own carers and respite services.

 

October 5 – Millions of pounds of NHS cash could be allocated to personal budgets for people with long-term health needs from next year, it was announced yesterday.

Some two billion pounds that is spent annually on continuing health care will be available for these budgets, health secretary Andrew Lansley said.

Currently more than 1,300 people deploy the budgets for needs which include end of life care, long term conditions, mental health and the programme known as Continuing Health Care.

Local authority signs deal to deliver services to older and disabled people across the county

Nottinghamshire county council is to roll out telecare technology to provide support for older and disabled people in a deal arranged within a Buying Solutions framework.

The technology will link a range of sensors in a person’s home to a 24 hour monitoring centre. The sensors will include:

• Home safety sensors for smoke, carbon monoxide, flood and heat alarms.

• Property exit sensors, which can alert the monitoring centre if a person with dementia wanders away from their home at an inappropriate time.
