A SOUTH Tyneside couple are starring in a new film to help others quit smoking.
Irene Doyle stubbed out her last cigarette three years ago, after signing up to the NHS’s Stop Smoking Service.
The 52–year–old carer had a 30-a-day habit but decided to stop, along with her partner David Thompson, after both their health and finances began to suffer.
Miss Doyle, of Alice Street, South Shields, said: “It was affecting my health.
“I couldn’t breathe properly and my chest was bad.
“It was also costing a lot.
“After eight years of being off the cigarettes, I couldn’t believe I had started again.

“Now we both feel so much better and more healthy.
Carers are at their wits’ end and need more help
Desperate carers appeal for help
EXTRA help for adult carers is vital, a voluntary group leader claims, after a father killed his severely disabled son because he feared placing him into full-time care.
Chairman of Stafford Carers, Frank James, spoke out saying local people were “at their wits’ end” and said he feared that the tragedy of Christopher O’Rourke – who was killed by his devoted father Kevin – could be repeated.
Carers have the option of managing their individual budgets – providing them with an opportunity to pay privately for services specifically tailored to their needs.

1st – 30th November Lung Cancer Awareness Month
Lung cancer is the UK’s biggest cancer killer, claiming the lives of more than 33,500 people in the UK every year – more than leukaemia, breast and prostate cancer combined – yet it receives a mere 3% of all money spent on cancer research in this country.
The British Lung Foundation believes it is vital that this balance is redressed in order that people with lung cancer receive the best possible treatment and care available.
