100,000 abuse cases on elderly and vulnerable in one year
No one should have to put up with abuse.
Almost 100,000 elderly and vulnerable people reported abuse last year.
An NHS Information Centre report found that of 94,500 such incidents logged last year, 39,300 cases – or 42% – were said to have taken place in the alleged victim’s home.
A further 35% occurred in care homes, the report said.
The data comes from cases of abuse reported to English councils’ adult safeguarding teams between April 2010 and March 2011.
Young carers will benefit from this
Crystal group gives young carers a break
Young carers meet.
YOUNGSTERS who look after sick relatives are given a chance to enjoy their childhood at a playgroup.
Life is not always easy for some primary school-aged children who have to care for unwell relatives or do the food shopping or house work.
But West Norfolk Carers provides these youngsters, aged between seven and 11, with a few hours of relaxation during their Crystal Group sessions.
Some of these youngsters will benefit from trips out and transport thanks to the Lynn News Young Carers Appeal.
We have teamed up with West Norfolk Carers to raise £100,000 to help improve the lives of youngsters, who are caring for sick relatives.
During the Crystal Group sessions on a Wednesday, 15 children have fun playing on the Wii or having a go at a variety of craft activities. They also enjoy snacks.
Times & NHS Campaign: Carers urged to get flu jab
CARERS across Coventry are being urged to get their flu jabs before it’s too late.
They are the latest “at-risk” group to be targeted as part of NHS Coventry’s campaign which is being backed by the Times.
As carers come into contact with vulnerable and sometimes elderly people, the NHS is warning that for them flu could be deadly.
