Leeds day care users hit by big rise in costs

 Colin Darnbrook faced an increase of more than 500% in his day care costs

The cost of adult social care in Leeds has dramatically increased as the authority faces cutbacks in its budget.

In one case a visit to a day centre which had cost a user £4.60 now comes with a charge of £29 – a 530% increase.

Leeds City Council said it faced tough decisions as social care consumed a significant amount of resources.

Colin Darnbrook, who used to visit a council-run day care centre said the rise from £4.60 per day to £29 had been too much for him to bear.

Supreme Court to hear social care cost arguments

 Lawyers representing four charities will say the law has been misinterpreted with regards to social care

The Supreme Court is to hear a case challenging the way councils in England can consider their finances when assessing people for social care.

A severely disabled man – known as KM – and four charities will say care should be the same wherever a person lives.

Iomart Group Plc : Safer Internet Day survey reveals Scottish parents are failing to protect their children from the threats posed by new technology

Westcoastcloud survey also reveals parents worries about sexual content and online grooming

Worrying statistics have emerged about the lack of protection for children in Scotland when they surf the internet at home.

A survey carried out by Glasgow-headquartered web security company Westcoastcloud for UK Safer Internet Day (Feb 7) reveals that although half of parents in Scotland have installed software to protect their children from accessing unsuitable content when they use desktop PCs and laptops in the home, only 1 in 4 has installed similar protection on the mobile phones, games consoles and television services their kids also use in the house.
