£348k for project to help support carers in Derbyshire
A DERBYSHIRE charity will get up to £348,000 over three years to develop new ways of helping carers sooner.
The funding from the Department of Health will be used by Derbyshire Carers Association to find methods of identifying and supporting carers as soon as the person they look after is diagnosed.
This will involve working in partnership with community hospitals and GP practices throughout Derbyshire.
Helen Robinson, chief executive of the association, said she was delighted with the funding, which will come from a £6.8 million national fund for the work.
She said: “The concept at the heart of this project is that if carers are identified earlier and offered support, the health and wellbeing of both carers and those they care for, will be improved.
“We are grateful to the Department of Health.”

The Duchess of Cambridge planted an oak sapling to commemorate her visit to The Treehouse hospice in Ipswich today.
Fresh from making her maiden public speech, Kate shovelled in four mounds of earth with a spade before stepping back and admiring her work.
She was then handed flowers by children from the hospice, including wheelchair-bound Bethany Woods, 10.
Kate then went on a brief walkabout to meet the hundreds of well-wishers who had waited patiently outside.
