CARERS were rewarded for looking after their loved ones with a week at the seaside.

Joan Ludbrook, of Elland, and Gordon Phillips, of Illingworth, were chauffeur-driven to a hotel in Scarborough, where they were treated to a range of activities.

The holiday was arranged by the Calderdale Care Scheme and supported by the Rotary Clubs of Brighouse, Halifax and Scarborough.

Dr Hazel Barker, chief executive of the scheme, praised Rotarians for their help in funding the trip.

She said: “This wonderful gesture demonstrates that the role of carers in the home,which is often unsung, is indeed recognised and valued. We cannot thank the Rotarians enough.”

Joan said “It was all the little thoughtful touches to the holiday that made it so very special. I feel so much better for the holiday and want to thank everyone for arranging it for me.”

The Calderdale Care Scheme, which incorporates the Calderdale Macmillan Care Scheme, was established in 1982 to provide practical support throughout Calderdale for those caring for someone at home, including end-of-life care.

More than 100 families are supported by the charity every year.
