The Carers support team at Cambridgeshire County Council have organised an away day which will provide advice and information for those supporting others.

In previous years an Annual Carers Conference has been held, but following feedback the title and format has been altered this year. The event will still give carers an opportunity to air their views and meet professionals who provide them with services and support but in a less structured, more relaxed and fun atmosphere..

County Council Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Councillor Martin Curtis, said: “The Annual Carers Conference was always well attended and we hope this new format will prove equally popular with carers from across Cambridgeshire.

“Providing support and services to the army of carers who look after family, relatives and friends across Cambridgeshire is one of the County Council’s priorities. This away day will enable them to meet people in a similar position, talk to the professionals and at the same time enjoy the relaxation sessions which will be available.”

The Carers Away Day will run from 10.00-3.30 pm, on Wednesday, September 19, at the Elme Hall Hotel, Elm High Road, Wisbech. Places at the event are limited and booking is essential. To reserve a place contact: Jo Layton on (01223) 715567 or via e-mail at: jo.layton@cambridgeshire.gov.uk.

The event will include hand and neck massages, indoor curling, Tai Chi sessions; chair-based exercises and musical fun. Refreshments and lunch will be provided.

The County Council will also provide extra help to ensure carers can attend including helping to organise replacement care and transport.
