Care show gives elderly visitors more information on the services available

The Elderly Care Show – an exhibition showcasing the best in care available to elderly people opened its doors for the first time yesterday in Bradford.

The free, two-day event at the Abundant Life Conference Centre in Wapping Road, Bradford, continues today, from 10am to 5pm.

The Elderly Care Show is a not-for-profit organisation and features exhibitions, seminars and a networking tea lounge, and is run in association with the Telegraph and Argus.

Exhibitors include the Alzheimer’s Society, Dementia UK, nursing home groups and suppliers, health organsiations such as Nuffield Health and Bradford Teaching Hospitals, Rimmingtons Pharmacy and carers’ organisations.

Speakers on Friday included Gerry Sutcliffe MP, Anna Jackson of the Carers’ Resource, and Barbara Craven who runs Extend seated exercise.

Today, speakers will include Jean Tottie of Dementia UK at 11am, followed at 1pm by Chris Minett, of Action for Ageing and Barbara Craven from Extend at 2pm.

At 3pm Clare Mason from the Alzheimer’s Society will speak, followed at 3.30pm by Heidi Annahin from Ability Matters.

Tim Nelson, chief executive of The show said several hundred people had attended the event during the first day and he hoped to welcome around 1,000 people today.

He said those caring for elderly relatives had been able to connect directly with those who could help them and elderly people themselves had been able to find out more about the services available to them.

Mr Nelson said: “The Elderly Care Show is about getting people informed about some of the great things that are out there for the older generation.

“We are passionate that people are empowered to have a choice and quality of life. I am so thrilled that the first event is in Bradford.”
