Campaign for baby bereavement suite at Yeovil hospital

A group of Somerset parents and midwives is hoping to raise enough money to build a baby bereavement suite at Yeovil District Hospital.

The Snowdrop Group wants to raise £20,000 to build the facility to help people who have lost a baby.

Midwife Kerry Casey said: “We don’t want bereaved parents on a labour ward where they can actually hear babies being born and babies crying.”

Snowdrop is a self-support group for families who have lost a baby.

It is supported by the hospital’s midwives and chaplaincy.

Ms Casey said: “Parents need to have that time and space and, as midwives, we need to have the one-on-one care to provide that emotional and physical support to them.

“It’s really important that we have a dedicated room where they can be… so they can actually have their time to grieve in private and they can have family and friends in if they need so they can support them through their grief, and also to see their baby.”
