This week I’d like to discuss something very important and personal to me … mental illness. It’s something that I feel very strongly about, having struggled with various forms throughout my life. I feel, even now, that there is a huge stigma attached to people who suffer from mental health issues and I’d like to do something, even as small as hosting this themed week, in order to take away some of the shame associated with admitting to mental illness.

I didn’t grow up with dogs, so until recently I didn’t have much experience with them. But then our “grand-dog,” Max, entered the family (owned by daughter and son-in-law Hannah and Mike). And I can say, completely scientifically and objectively, that Max is in fact the cutest dog in the entire world.
I have found another interesting thing about having Max around. When we’re dog-sitting, he gets us out of the house for regular walks, and his cheerful and curious personality tends to brighten our moods. So it seems logical that a pet like Max would make us healthier.
