THE mother of a severely disabled Bournemouth man, who was told his care is being cut 70 per cent, will fight the decision with legal specialists.

Lorraine Zavadil will be using the same solicitors who won a test case at the high court against Birmingham Council.

She told Tuesday night’s full council meeting: “Is it not reasonable to expect a resolution that would not take this council into a protracted legal battle?”

I am an official carer for my wife, who is registered as severely disabled. For this I get no Carer’s Allowance whatsoever. I am 76 and under duress, doing the best I can like thousands of others unpaid carers countrywide.

I asked Social Services for a stand-in shower to be installed as I have to help my wife into and out of the bath.

The SS gave me another number to ring. This number gave another and so on.

Will others follow this?  It is ok when things work well but when things go wrong the councils will be left to pick up the pieces.

Wokingham borough has become the first unitary authority in the country to set up a company to manage its provision of social care.

Optalis, a new adult social care company set up and managed by Wokingham Borough Council, began commercial operations on Monday.

The team behind the company has taken control of all council-run or commissioned adult care services.
