Carers can often feel lonely and forgotten!
Campaigners warn loneliness is ‘hidden killer’ of elderly
Loneliness is the ‘hidden killer’ of older people, according to a new charity campaign which is calling for greater recognition of the link between isolation and ill-health.
The Campaign to End Loneliness warns that lonely older people are at increased risk of depression, lack of exercise and bad diet.
The campaign, set up by a range of charities – including People’s Health Trust funded group WRVS – warns that almost one in ten older people suffer from ‘intense’ loneliness.
Bus to help battle against cancer
The Macmillan Cancer Support Mobile Information Service will travel across the county to give people information about tackling the disease.
On Monday, it will be outside the City Museum in Lancaster city centre from 10am until 4pm, before moving elsewhere in the county.
Helen Tuvey, Macmillan lead information support specialist, said: “Our Macmillan information team can answer any concern about cancer, including information about treatments, side effects, benefits advice and what support is available locally. “We’re here for anyone affected by cancer, those with a cancer diagnosis, friends, relatives and carers.” Last year, more than 26,000 people visited the team’s two buses which cover the north of England and the East Midlands.
