‘Most vulnerable hit hardest by cuts’
PLANS to close three dementia care homes in Sheffield were met with disbelief and anger from stunned carers and families.
Rita Brookes, who helped defeat last year’s plans to close Woodland View and Birch Avenue, said she could not believe more closures are on the cards.
The 58-year-old, whose aunt suffers from severe dementia and is still being treated in Woodland View, said: “They are coming up with the same arguments as they did last year – that this care could be done cheaper in essentially private hands.

A pensioner, believed to be Norfolk’s oldest carer, celebrated her 100th birthday by staging a big party in her home village at the weekend.
Alice Syzling was born in Croxton on February 17 1912 and has lived in the village near Thetford for the whole of her life.
The centenarian, who was born before the maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic and when George V was on the throne, marked the milestone birthday by inviting all her family and friends to a party at Croxton Village Hall on Saturday.

A teenager from Wolverhampton who helped care for his father for more than eight years is the latest star of new TV show Gok’s Teens.
Michael Watson, aged 13, will feature on the Channel 4 show next week as part of an episode dedicated to looking at the lives of young carers.
