Norfolk young carers all set for right royal treat

The Lynn News is working with West Norfolk Carers to help improve the lot of youngsters who are giving up their childhood to help care for relatives.

YOUNGSTERS who care for sick relatives will be given a right royal treat later this year.

Residents living in the Windsor Road area of Lynn will be joining in the Diamond Jubilee celebrations with a street party on Monday, June 4.

The organisers of the party will be raising money on the day to treat children and teenagers to a day out at Sandringham in the summer.

 Older people are increasingly ‘web-savvy’

As patients’ interaction with the health service increasingly moves online, it is easy to assume that the voices of the elderly will be lost along the way.

But in this week’s Scrubbing Up, Dr Paul Hodgkin of the feedback site Patient Opinion, says social media channels are not just for the young.

The stories that elderly people tell us have huge power. They are sad, funny, intimate, tragic, overwhelming and inspirational.

CARERS who look after ill or frail relatives or friends should be rewarded with a discount card in shops, it was claimed yesterday.

The “Carer’s Card” idea is set to be put to Conwy County Council – in an area which has the highest number of senior citizens proportionately in Wales – and could be extended across the country.

The proposal comes from Cllr Mike Priestley to reward these “unsung heroes”.
