YOUNGSTERS who care for sick relatives will be given a right royal treat later this year.

Residents living in the Windsor Road area of Lynn will be joining in the Diamond Jubilee celebrations with a street party on Monday, June 4.

The organisers of the party will be raising money on the day to treat children and teenagers to a day out at Sandringham in the summer.

The Lynn News is working with West Norfolk Carers to help improve the lot of youngsters who are giving up their childhood to help care for relatives.

The appeal will be helping youngsters, aged between five and 18, who look after family members suffering from physical disabilities, serious illnesses as well as mental health and substance abuse problems.

Money will be used to pay for trips out for the youngsters along with transport to carers group meetings.

One of the organisers, Joanne Russell, is hoping the day will be as successful as a street party organised for the Golden Jubilee.

In 2002, Goodwin’s Road was closed off for more than 400 people to celebrate the Queen’s 50th anniversary on the throne.

This year’s event promises a fun packed afternoon filled with music and community spirit.

The Live and Let pub will be backing the event by hosting an exhibition of memorabilia from the 2002 celebrations along with the Silver Jubilee.

Two bands will be performing during the day.

Pubs in the area will be invited to enter a team in the baked bean eating contest.

People who will be attending on the day are also asked to bring a plate of food along to share with friends and neighbours.

The organisers are also inviting young carers and their families to come down on the day.

They have also applied for a grant to pay for a double decker play bus to keep youngsters amused on the day.

A raffle will also be held during the celebrations to raise money to give the youngsters a well earned day out at Sandringham House.

Joanne is hoping that individuals and businesses in the area will be offering prizes to the raffle.

She said: “We want to support a local charity. The young carers and their families will be able to enjoy it together. They can sit together and enjoy the music.”

The street party will be held in Windsor Road between noon and 5pm.
