CARERS in Harlow will be receiving increased support after a local care group secured a £130,565 grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

Caring for Harlow Carers, who provide information, advice and support to carers in the town, were successful in their application for the funding which will cover almost 40 per cent of their outgoings for the next five years.

As well as offering necessary respite and social opportunities, the group also help with a range of practical issues such as arranging care benefits and access to local services to reduce isolation and help carers maintain their personal health and wellbeing.

“We are absolutely thrilled to receive this grant,” said carer support worker Isobel Atkinson.

“We hope to use the money to provide additional services for our carers, like some extra support meetings directed at different ages.”

She added: “It is all about generally helping our carers to get the relaxation, support and training they need to be able to continue the brilliant work they do.”
