Crossroads Care to provide day care for people living with dementia in Newmarket
New care scheme for dementia sufferers
A CHARITY which supports carers will set up a new day care scheme in Newmarket thanks to a funding boost.
Crossroads Care will introduce the Homeshare scheme to the town and the surrounding area to provide day care for people living with dementia.
The team is appealing for volunteers to act as “homesharers” by providing their own homes for the scheme
Jan Brittain, Homeshare co-ordinator, said: “This will offer the family carer a much needed break from their caring responsibilities and give them the time to recharge their batteries.
“It also gives people with care needs a regular opportunity to meet others in a homely, safe and friendly environment.”
She added: “We are keen to talk to people who would like to be homesharers. We are looking for naturally caring people who will need to have a suitable home with easy access and space for four or five people. Full training and support will be given.
“We are also looking for volunteers who enjoy meeting people and taking part in activities who can help homesharers once a week.”
Funding for the scheme was granted by The Suffolk Foundation.
