‘In sickness and in health – he’s a hero’

WHEN Alan Tucker got married, his wedding vows struck a significant chord as he was not only becoming a husband but also a carer for his wife Jennifer

More than 40 years later, he still provides care 24 hours a day – but never complains.

Jennifer, aged 62, believes she would have to be cared for in a home if Alan didn’t look after her.

And she is so grateful, she has now nominated Alan, aged 60, as Adult Carer of the Year in The Sentinel’s Our Heroes awards.

Jennifer was born three months premature and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a youngster.

She said: “Alan doesn’t like the limelight but I think people should know how good he and other carers are.

The freedom of flying with a disability

Kary Wright is a 49-year-old married father of two and a c5/c6 quadriplegic.

 

Having shared his experiences of fishing with a disability, he talks about one of his other outdoor passions, flying.

“So how about a little wing over?” Asks Bob Hagan from the back seat.

 “Sounds good to me!” I reply.

“Okay, now follow along with me,” says Hagan as he instructs me to keep my hand on the control stick so that I can learn the maneuver.

Bob points the nose down and we quickly accelerate, trading altitude for speed. He then raises the nose sharply and the G forces push me down into the seat. We are accending a near vertical climb, then suddenly he kicks the rudder to the left. The nose then drops through the horizon and we free-fall straight down, what are rush!

Evil teenager tortured man for his benefits

AARON TEASDALE … tortured a disabled man for his benefits.

EVIL Aaron Teasdale is behind bars today after torturing a victim with learning difficulties.

Teasdale, 19, was locked up indefinitely after he and a 17-year-old female accomplice – who cannot be named for legal reasons – left the man in intensive care after being beaten, burnt and repeatedly shot in the head with a BB gun.
