Pembrokeshire’s newly-appointed Carers’ Champions aim to make people aware of the vital work carers provide across the county.

County Council representative Cllr David Bryan, of Haverfordwest, said that there is often confusion about the word carer.

“A carer is someone who, without payment, provides help and support to a partner, parent, child, friend or neighbour who could not manage without their help,” he said.

You never stop needing your mum- Happy Mothers Day

You never stop needing your mum

With a diagnosis of bipolar and borderline personality disorder, I have managed my mental health pretty well over the years, even if I do say so myself. I have stayed employed, volunteered for charity and even found someone to marry me! And the one person who has been there every step of the way is, of course, my mum. Supportive, often humorous and always on my side, my mum Chris is an inspiring woman in so many ways, however one instance springs to mind when I think of how much I still need her, even though I am a grown woman with a home and life of my own now.

British Carers let off steam in Mojacar

GRATEFUL: Carer Fanny Davies (purple sweater) says thank you to the Vera Lions and Almeria Angels, for their ongoing support.

BRITISH carers from Mojacar, neighbouring towns and further afield (Agua Amarga and Mazarron), met to “let off Steam” over cups of tea and cake at the Mana del Cielo café, Mojacar, recently.

Fanny Davies whose husband suffers from Alzheimer’s, started the Carers Support Group Mojacar about a year ago.

She said she was beginning to get desperate because there was no support network in English.

Even though Davies speaks some Spanish, she said she felt the need for and English-speaking support group.

The group is for anyone with dependents, but also for people who have time and are willing to help by volunteering as carers, drivers or being part of the support network in any way.

Davies invites carers, their dependents and new volunteers to come to the support group day at Turre Evangelical church hall on Thursday March 15 from 11am to 2pm.
