Funding for social care for older people has been cut annually by a ‘devastating’ £610 million.

Following austerity measures implemented by the coalition Government, data from Age UK reveals care budgets for older people have been reduced by 8.4%.

YOUNG carers can enjoy a bit of time with a good book – thanks to libraries in South Tyneside.

The bookshelves at the Young Carers Project, run by Carers Association in South Tyneside (Cast), were bolstered by £500 worth of new titles.

Leading charities and experts have written to The Daily Telegraph warning the current care system is “reaching crisis point” and must be radically overhauled, even it means making people pay more.
