Grandma Remember Me.

Truro and Falmouth MP Sarah Newton is to host a Cornish theatre company’s production in the Houses of Parliament.

Mrs Newton and the Alzheimer’s Society will welcome the Az2B Theatre Company to Westminster on December 9 for a performance of Grandma Remember Me.

The touching story of a special relationship between a grandmother and granddaughter, the play explores the importance of memories and relationships and how to keep and treasure them. Drawing on the experiences of living with someone with dementia, Grandma Remember Me is told through a mix of puppetry, drama and storytelling.

Written and devised by Belinda Lazenby and the Penryn-based company, the play has already received enthusiastic reviews and is being used by the NHS for training purposes.

Mrs Newton said: “I believe it is so important that we develop new ways of raising awareness of dementia. That is why I arranged this production in Parliament so MPs and Peers can see for themselves how theatre companies like Az2B are using innovative ways of educating people in dealing with the effects of this difficult condition. I am delighted that the support for this play has come from members on all sides of the House and it clearly shows that Parliament is taking up the Prime Minister’s Dementia Challenge and answering his call for an ‘all out fight back against dementia’.
