Although I have had no experience in looking after someoned with Altzhiemer’s my cousin had it, and on the occassions that I saw him, I noticed a rapid difference in his condition, which was very sad, as he was once a head master,,

‘Dr Rosemary’ on breakfast the other day was explaining how time consuming this could be for GP’s & in many cases it would be time wasted…….The test is also said to be unreliable. Also inevitably it will cause worry & distress to many patients. It seems to me we ought to be asking more questions about testing every person in the UK when they reach 75 before jumping on this expensive, time consuming & rather unreliable bandwaggon. With ‘ finite ‘ resources it ought to be born in mind that if we go down this road there will be no ‘ new money ‘ to pay for it & something else would have to be cut back to finance it. For every test that is carried in a GP’s surgery 4-5 appointment slots will be used. Also the logistics of organising all this will not be easy or cheap. Would it all be worth it ? That is the question.
