WITH the increasing use of the internet by children, criminals are constantly finding new ways to expose them to real danger.

Which is why West Mercia Police has launched a new e-safety bulletin service, providing timely updates to parents and carers in Redditch, Bromsgrove and Droitwich from a trusted source.

Working with the Local Authority, the campaign will be communicated through schools, and parents/carers are being asked to visit westmerciabulletin.org.uk to sign up.

Signing up only takes a minute and is totally free. On sign up, parents can download a handy free child e-safety guide which contains useful advice such as the SMART rules and the 5P’s for parents, to print and share.

Detective Superintendent Martin Lakeman from West Mercia Police, who is leading the campaign, said: “The internet is a fantastic place but just like any fantastic place, it has risks.

“We are doing all we can to educate everyone in our local communities about the potential dangers that face children online and the simple steps that will keep them safe from harm.

“Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and we urge all parents and carers to sign up. Our goal is to achieve at least 7,000 parent subscribers over the next four weeks and we are deliberately timing this campaign to coincide with the start of the school summer holidays when children will be away from school and looking for things to do.

“Together, we can make West Mercia the safest region for child internet safety in the UK.”
