Inchmarlo Care Home and Retirement Community celebrated its 25th anniversary this summer and is planning to enhance and expand its services in the years ahead.

The community opened in 1986 and pioneered a new way of retirement living in the UK. More than 300 families have spent time at the purpose-built continuing care community on the 100 acre estate on Royal Deeside over the last 25 years.

Of the residents at Inchmarlo, 110 have come from across Scotland, 26 from England and Wales and five from overseas.

During inspections in 2010 and 2011, Inchmarlo was awarded grade six by the Care Commission – the highest available rating from the care regulator – in recognition of the impressive standard of care it provides for residents and their families.

Inchmarlo House is one of only five care homes in Scotland to have been awarded a six grading in 2010 and the only care home in the North-east of the country to have achieved this accolade.

The Skene Group, which owns and operates the Inchmarlo community, continues to innovate and in recent years, services like Humphrey the canine therapy assistant and meals cooked to Michelin star restaurant recipes have been introduced.

Charles Skene, chairman of the Skene Group, recently hosted an anniversary event at Inchmarlo House for all of the residents and is keen to see the community grow.

He said: “We’re tremendously proud to mark 25 years of excellent care at Inchmarlo Retirement Community.

“From when we opened in 1986 we’ve provided the highest standard of care and support services as well as competitive property on our beautiful estate – it really has been a winning combination.”

Owners of the 148 houses and apartments at Inchmarlo were invited to a celebration at Inchmarlo House and enjoyed a buffet.
