Hello to everyone who remembers me from the early days of Carer's in its various evolutions.
It's been a while since i've been able to get in to chat or post which was further complicated when my 'piglet' went into a specialist neurological rehab hospital in december 2013 for what was supposed to be a routine assessment but then turned into a nightmare during which i almost lost him to inadequate care and incompentance by the nursing staff.
His discharge was delayed because our home was flooded in january and february 2014 so there was no home for him to be discharged to. However they made sure he could be discharged anyway on 8th April 2014 ...... to an acute hopsital with several potentially fatal infections. Combined with the disaster of the flood i had a break down and couldnt see him for a month. He was moved to another hospital in May 2014 for 2 months and finally to a nursing home for 3 months until our bungalow was ready for him to return. I can only guess how close i came to losing him by the physical mess he was in when i eventually saw him on May 5th 2014. In all we were living apart for 10 months - the worst period of my life ever.
With one exception i have no longer have any trust in hospital nursing staff to be able to look after my 'piglet'. Some community services are based at the hospital that triggered the near tradegy but i have refused to go anywhere near that hospital again. fortunatly they have local clinics however evn that hasnt been an easy ride.
He was coming to the end of a dental program when he went in for his assessment and it should have been completed in april or may 2014. This all had to be shelved and now wont be completed until August 2015.
We are still surrounded by post flood building sites and desperatly in need of a holiday but we can no longer visit the hotels that we used to because of his condition. We are hoping to get to an adapted cottage close to the south coast in October which will be the anniversay of his homecoming.
I'm looking forward to getting in and catching up with everyone in the coming months
It's great to be back
