Just to let you all know that I am home and in bed on my feed. Thank you all for your good wishes and for Jane keeping you all informed. I needed an 8 hour operation to remove two tumours and a swallow gland that the cancer had wrapped itself around. The operation was a success, I had a muscle and blood vessel taken up through my breast and put in my neck, as there is nothing left in the left side of my neck after the cancer was removed. I am on swallow throat therapy to strengthen my right swallow gland to compensate for the gland I lost. Hopefully I will get my tube out in 6-8 weeks. Very tired and sore, hope to catch up with you all later. h###u

Went to the bathroom early this, morning and my knees gave way, grabbed the radiator and fell onto my knees. My feeding tube got caught in the toilet roll holder and pulled some of it out. It did not feel right, so phoned the ward and they said to go in. I had to have a new tube put in and then an x-ray to make sure it was in the right place. I was out the house 3 hours, I am absolutely shattered, so back in bed for a rest.

Have been to see the swallow nurse today, have had the camera put down each nostril. They wanted to see how my voice box was doing, as it was damaged when the swallow gland was removed. They also wanted to see how my swallow was getting on. The right hand side of my voice box is compensating for my left side and my voice is good. My swallowing is a little better, so I have more exercises to do to strengthen my right swallow gland and carry on with my 3 sips and a cough every hour. My throat is very dry and hard for the camera to see what is going on. So I have been told to buy a steam inhaler cup, which I have done from Amazon. So hopefully that will help for the next time I go. Every time the camera was foggy they tried to clean it on my tongue or the back of my throat, which was awful. Never mind, I am back in bed and resting again. Nothing else this week, not back at the hospital till next week.

Thank you for all your good wishes, much appreciated. The swallow nurse rang me today to see how I was getting on. I could go tomorrow to see her or leave it another week, I have left it for another week. She has increased my swallow therapy, so instead of 3 sips an hour, it is now 3 sips every half hour. There is a higher risk of a chest infection if the liquid goes down the wrong way. So I need to keep an eye out for that. If it happens, to stop the sips and ring the swallow nurse.

Have been to the hospital today to see the consultant. I saw Mr Hamilton, one of my surgeons, walking down the corridor I saw Mr Davis another of my surgeons, who said I looked well. Mr Hamilton said they had taken 14 nodes out of my neck, two of which were cancerous. He thinks I might be able to have radiotherapy but I need to see Dr Kelly who deals with that side of things. Mr Hamilton asked what I thought, I said I would have to think seriously about it if it involved me wearing my mask again. He is also going to refer me to the lung team about the nodules on my lung. I have no symptoms, so they might leave well alone. Then the ENT team would look after me and monitor me. I told the consultant I was not physically or mentally strong enough to cope with anymore treatment. He agreed I was not physically strong enough yet but I was mentally. He said I was remarkable for what I had gone through. My wounds are healing well and he is pleased with my progress, I will see him in 3-4 weeks.
