British actress and presenter Lynda Bellingham, who had cancer, has died aged 66, her agent has confirmed.

Sue Latimer said she died yesterday "in her husband's arms".

The actress, best known for her long-running role as a mother in the Oxo TV adverts, had been battling colon cancer since being diagnosed in July 2013.

Bellingham said she had decided to end her treatment in August to limit her family's suffering, after it spread to her lungs and liver.

In a statement on behalf of Bellingham's family, Latimer said: "Lynda died peacefully in her husband's arms yesterday at a London hospital.

"Her family would like to thank the nurses and staff for their tremendous care and support."

She added: "Actor, writer and presenter - to the end Lynda was a consummate professional."

Bellingham was also known for shows such as All Creatures Great and Small and in recent years was on the panel of ITV's Loose Women.

RIP

How sad that she did not get her last Christmas with her family. She was a lovely lady. She had just recorded her last appearance on Loose Women, which is due to be shown next Wednesday.

Michael Pattemore tells Yours he wants Lynda to be remembered as an actress and backs our efforts to raise money in her memory

Lynda’s heartbroken husband Michael Pattemore, aka Mr Spain, this morning thanked Yours readers for their love and support and urged everyone to remember her as an actress.

Speaking to Yours writer Carole Richardson this morning he said: “I just want her to be remembered as an actress more than anything; not as a celebrity or one of the Loose Women.

“She started her career as an actress and never thought of herself as a celebrity; she’s always been an actress.”

“I can tell you now that the words on her gravestone will be: ‘The curtain went up on 31st May, 1948, and the final curtain went down on 19 October, 2014.’

Doing his best to hold back tears, he added that in his heart of hearts he didn’t think she would make it to enjoy the one last Christmas with the family she so desperately wanted and it was clear she wouldn’t be able to die at home, as she’d wanted.

“She was in too much pain and they didn’t have it under control enough for me to be able to look after her.”

In honour of Lynda’s kindness and generosity we’ve decided to set up a fund in her memory to raise money for three charities close to her heart: Action Against Cancer, Macmillan and Marie Curie nurses. Michael has given his blessing to our appeal fund. If you’d like to donate visit http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/YoursMagazine

To make a donation by post: make your cheque payable to the charity of your choice and send it to Yours Lynda Appeal, Yours Magazine, Media House, Peterborough Business Park, Peterborough PE2 6EA.

See the next issue of Yours magazine, on sale October 28, for more from Michael and our tribute to Lynda.
