SEVEN beauty spots in Lancashire – part of the Forest of Bowland – are being put forward as potential magnets for the nation’s stargazers.

Unhindered views of the constellations and along the Milky Way are at a premium with the amount of man-made light which reflects into the night sky.

But astronomer Robert Ince and forest officials believe they have pinpointed locations, including several in East Lancashire, which fit the bill.

One has previously qualified at Clerk Laithe Lodge, near Newton-in-Bowland, under the Dark Sky Discovery Sites, programme, backed by leading observatories.

But it is now hoped the likes of Barley Green, Gisburn Forest Hub, Slaidburn, Bowland Knotts, Beacon Fell, Harris End Fell and Crook o’Lune, can join it
