Have you used iron-on velcro ?

Postby chenrezig » 25 Jan 2014, 20:22

I knitted a dog coat for a friend for her Jack Russell but I forgot she has a phobia about buttons (apparently it is quite a common phobia) which was what the pattern had. I have just tried some sew-on velcro but it is going to be so hard to sew it on so it does not show - I want to try iron-on but as it will be on wool I am not sure it will stick when I iron it (I have used them iron-on name tags but that was onto t shirts and shirts etc) - I could always giver her some spare as well in case it comes off ?

I've not tried this Liz, but would wonder how the wool would be with the heat it might need to stick.  I am going off hot hot the iron needs to be for wonder web (one of the best inventions ever!!!) Would a press stud not be as good?

I haven't heard of a button phobia. It must be very difficult for your friend.

I've not used iron on velcro before, I would suggest using a damp hankerchief or a piece of cloth over it to protect the wool from the heat, alternatly using a piece of material same colour as wool, iron the velcro on then stitch it to the wool.

I've never heard of a button phobia before, we live and learn.
