50 Years of Dr Who

Postby chenrezig » 23 Nov 2013, 09:30

Today is the 50th Anniversary of you know who? With all the publicity (or hype) depending on your point of view I don’t think I need to say what or who…

On the 23rd November 1963 a police box “owned” by a crotchety old grandfather accompanied by his very ‘60’s granddaughter appeared on our black and white TV screens.

Wobbly sets … bug-eyed monsters  in the 20th century…….. now in the 21st with the latest in CGI techniques (computer generated imaging).

For a crash course prior to tonight’s special – if you haven’t seen it already …

And as to how it all started …

I wonder how many of you can spot actors who were in the classic series? At least four were in  stories with William Hartnell – other in the new modern version…

Do you like it or hate it –Dr Who can be a bit like marmite as one BBC reporter shows –
“There's been much celebration of the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. But there are some sci-fi fans who just can't see the point, says Chris Sallis. My girlfriend loves Doctor Who, as do all of her friends. They cannot understand why I don't. Let me explain. I grew up on a steady diet of Star Wars and Star Trek, as well as more old-school science fiction like Quatermass and the War of the Worlds. But despite my love of science fiction there is only one series that I simply cannot stand - Doctor Who.”

If you did like it, do you have favourite Doctor, favourite monster?

Finally …….

Five decades in five minutes

It reminded me that I used to watch it from behind the settee. 004
