Being a family carer is so isolating.

Family tends to be supportive to start with then get bored and worriedyou want them to help out more so sstay away. Not every family i know but it happens. Friends drift as you are not available. In my case they stopped visiting as Lee is in the lounge nad as he doesn't wash often i was too embarrassed to invite people in due to the smell.

The nights are lonely if you have to be up, there is no one to talk too and if it's a spouse you lose the husband/wife relationship so even having a cuddle isn't possible so you feel physically lonely.

Then there is sexy.

I am 46 and have cared for Lee for over 12 years. We haven't been intimate since 2012 and it was an annual event before that so I do feel lonely in that area too as I don't have the illness and am a physical woman. So i feel cheated fro that also.

Hope i haven't been too open! Lol

I applaud you Jane for commenting on a difficult subject, I identify with everything you said as I have similar problems with Bill. I will come back later & expand on this

The loneliness I felt was different to Jane and Annie as I was caring for my Daughter and Mother, the sadness and heartache I feel after loss of them both is indescribable.

Hi all I am writing a book for carers of people with dementia / Alzheimer's and would love to hear your stories. All too often we are faced with the dark often depressing issues. this book focuses on the few lighter sides of this cruel disease. they are often welcome relief in difficult times. Please take a look http://jo-thompson.co.uk/
