The Queen has joined her two grandsons in providing help to flood victims by donating feed and bedding from her Royal farms to farmers in Somerset.
Following in the footsteps of countless others the Queen’s donation will go towards farmers who have been affected by the flooding of the Somerset Levels.
Yesterday, farmer Phillip Rowbottom and agricultural contractor Andrew Nicholson completed a 10-hour tractor drive from Yorkshire to Sedgemoor to donate 15 tonnes of silage, haylage, straw and hay.
The National Farmers Union has since requested that all potential donaters pledge offers of fodder, feed and straw, so as not to overwhelm supplies.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “The Queen is supporting Somerset farmers affected by the flooding on the Somerset Levels by contributing feed and bedding from the royal farms at Windsor.”
The Duke of Cambridge and his brother Prince Harry joined colleagues from the armed forces today in helping to defend a town from the floods that have brought misery to much of southern England.
William and Harry worked from 6am in Datchet, Berkshire, helping with the supply of sandbags.
Video footage obtained by The Guardian showed the pair forming part of a human chain unloading sandbags from an Army vehicle and putting them on to the back of a train wagon.
A spokesman from Kensington Palace said: “They wanted to show their support for the flood victims and have joined the armed forces relief effort.”
