Did you ever do any of these things?

We used to wrap up little parcels with carrot tops and brussel sprouts leaves and a few sweets and small toys, and knock on the door of the house and leave the parcel as we ran off.
The children loved it.

I can remember doing stuff like that when I was a kid

No never did things like that.
