The solar system’s two brightest planets will put on a spectacular show tonight, Tuesday June 30.

Venus and Jupiter, third and fourth brightest celestial bodies, respectively, in the Solar System will appear to hug each other in a rare conjunction event.

It should be visible above the western horizon between 10.30pm and 11pm.

Robin Scagell, vice-president of the Society for Popular Astronomy, said: “Many people will wonder what they are seeing – but it’s just a natural coincidence.

“It will be a beautiful sight and everyone will be able to enjoy it.”
