THE OLYMPIAN

THE OLYMPIAN
The athlete runs,
his muscles taut, his jaw well set.
He feels the pain, and yet, and yet .....
He pushes on, whilst hearing distant roar,
so he is driven more and more -
towards the finish,
where he stands amazed,
his heart still pounding
and he so dazed, is pulled and grabbed,
his hands held high,
as he is hailed with victors cry.
And in that moment, on triumphant dawn,
he joins the ranks
and as an Olympian is reborn.
