The highlight of the church year in Fakenham, its renowned Christmas Tree Festival, starts today (December 1) from 10am to 8pm until December 8.
Fakenham Xmas tree FestivalThe Festival, which attracted over 18,000 people last year, lights up the church with 90 Christmas trees, each decorated for one of the 78 charities taking part.

Entrance is free, but organizers suggest you take a bag of coins so that you can donate money at your favourite charity trees. Charities include Wells Community Hospital Trust, Cancer Research UK, St John Ambulance, Royal British Legion, The Salvation Army and the EDP We Care Appeal.

Rector of Fakenham, the Rev Adrian Bell, said: “Preparations have been going very well and I have worked out that 1,600 man-hours will go into setting up and running the festival. This is by people both within the church and wider community.

“I think the festival has become so popular because it is a very simple concept which involves the church and the wider community and people love to get involved.

Over the last nine years the festival has raised over £250,000 and coach trips are organised to visit it. Lunches, teas and refreshments are available as is a walk-through Festival Market selling many items for Christmas including Christmas cakes and cards.

There is ample parking in Fakenham and you may like to use the Tesco Store nearby which allows three hours of free parking. Just follow the AA signs as you go into the town.
