Carer Services Prescription in Cambridgeshire

Are you a Carer and need a Break?

Are you caring for someone and feel emotionally or physically overwhelmed? Would a break make a difference to your well being?

You can visit your GP and explain your situation.  It is important that your GP acknowledges you are a carer and that your details are logged on their Carers Register which will try to improve the ongoing support available to you.

If you and your GP agree that more support is required, you will be issued with a free Prescription.  Your details will be passed to Crossroads Care Cambridgeshire with your consent, so that you can be supported with information and the opportunity of a carers assessment.  We will visit you to discuss the most appropriate form of support, which could include a free short break.  We can point you in the right direction to where you can find out more about caring, your rights, free services or benefits you may be entitled to.

You may choose to have a short break for some “me” time away from it all to support your own health or to keep an appointment.

Threat to leave needy patients in hospital, making State pick up bill in Ireland

Family carers say they are prepared to go on strike

Family carers say they are prepared to go on strike and leave their loved ones in hospital if the Government refuses to ‘do the right thing’ and reverse the €325 cut in the respite care grant.

Such a move would end up costing the State far in excess of any money saved by the controversial cut in this week’s Budget.

The Carers’ Association plans a further protest at the Dáil on Tuesday, with Government backbenchers declaring themselves in ‘open revolt’.

However, some members of the association are calling for strike action that would leave patients stranded in public hospitals.

The Government is coming under massive pressure to reverse the decision, which has been universally criticised as a cruel and unnecessary measure that saves a paltry €26m.

Jane Holmes: Who cares for the carers?

What happens when the carer becomes ill?

Jane Holmes is chief executive of Wokingham-based charity Building for the Future which provides support and activities for disabled children.

She set up the charity after her daughter Kitty was born with severe cerebral palsy.

Yesterday, I was talking to a single mum of a disabled adult about respite provision.

My friend, whose beautiful young adult daughter has the developmental age of a baby, has found herself having to fight to get the help they need.

Of course she’s been through this once, when her daughter was a child, but the whole process starts anew at age eighteen.

What would you do if your adult child needed more care than the average baby? Just imagine it for a moment. And let’s not be complacent … all of our kids are just one car crash away ..
