Cuts to Norfolk adult social care, which critics say could increase homelessness, agreed – by narrowest of margins.
Millions of pounds of cuts, including for spending on independent living for young and old, have been backed by councillors – by the narrowest of margins.
The decision to cut more than £11m, including more than £5m from funding for services which support vulnerable people, was today agreed by Norfolk County Council’s adult social care committee.
But an attempt by opposition councillors to stop cuts to housing support was only blocked thanks to the casting vote of Conservative chairman Bill Borrett.
Norwich Foodbank has teamed up with Bus operator First Eastern Counties to make sure that people are able to pick up their emergency three-day food parcels with a free bus ride.
People who need to use foodbanks sometimes walk long distances with heavy shopping bags as they can’t afford public transport.
To address the issue, First Bus has developed a partnership with foodbank national charity the Trussell Trust, which already operates in the Midlands and Essex.
Now First Eastern Counties has linked up with Norwich Foodbank to offer bus journey vouchers, which can be used by people needing help from the foodbank and the volunteers who work there.
The Carers Association urges families and friends not to forget family carers this Christmas
The Carers Association is appealing to people across the country not to forget Ireland’s 187,000 family carers this Christmas. With Ireland facing an aging population in a time of mass emigration and 6,500 children providing care to family members, family carers have never needed support more.
Family carers provide unpaid care to society’s older people, those terminally ill and children and adults with disabilities – yet they have no legal entitlement to holidays, breaks or a day off from this demanding role, even at Christmas.
