Mr Blue Sky single set to be released in memory of Worcester dad

A CHARITY single in memory of a Worcester dad who died of cancer is set to be released.

The version of Electric Light Orchestra’s Mr Blue Sky was recorded in memory of Battenhall dad Nigel Collinson.

Mr Collinson was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in September 2013, and died 12 weeks later – just two days after his 45th birthday.

100,000 carers working for free in Staffordshire

Some 98,832 of residents in Staffordshire offer some form of free care, with over a third of these giving 20 or more hours of care a week.

This means that nearly 800,000 hours of caring is being undertaken each week by friends or family.

I lost count of the times I cried

Three years ago I received a series of phone calls in the night. My 85-year-old aunt, who suffered from advanced dementia, had fallen over in her bedroom. Her carer, Tsitsi, had heard the crash, wrapped her in blankets and called an ambulance. The paramedics took four hours to arrive, so Tsitsi sat with her and called me hourly with updates on her condition.
