North Norfolk branch of Multiple Sclerosis Society receive new bus for day centre group

A group supporting people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) received a new bus today (Monday) to help provide transport to their weekly day centre in Southrepps.
The north Norfolk branch of the MS Society purchased the bus following a bequest left by Fakenham resident Donald Belsom after his wife was diagnosed with the neurological condition.
The bus will be used to transport members to the day centre, Life and MS (LAMS), which meets every Monday in the village hall and for outings in north Norfolk.
Chairman of LAMS Laraine Bingham said the group was important because it is run by people with MS for people with MS.
She said: “The vehicle will provide us with comfortable transport and it is much better for us to have our own vehicle so we can do much more and have outings.”
At today’s official unveiling Mrs Bingham also praised the team of volunteers who help with the running of the group.
Member Donna Pipe won a raffle to cut the ribbon with North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb to open the new bus and now unable to drive she emphasised the importance of it.
She said: “We can go anywhere now. The bus is important for us because it means I will be able to keep seeing other people which is what I enjoy about the group the most.”
The MS Society provides transport for members to the centre from all across north Norfolk area and this new vehicle is in addition to the other transport service they provide.
Other activities at LAMS include exercise, using computers, art and craft, and massage. Personal care is also provided by Crossroads Carers so that the group can meet its members needs.
