IT team raise over £90,000 for carers’ charity

Raise more than £94,053
A TRIATHLON squad from Skelmersdale helped fundraisers from the Co-operative’s IT team raise more than £94,053 for their charity of the year, the Carers Trust.
The Skem runners, swimmers and cyclists organised by Nadine Burns, John Jones and Stephanie Moran, raised £1,200 for the charity.
Group chief information officer Andy Haywood said: “I am incredibly proud of the way colleagues in IT have thrown themselves into raising money for Carers Trust this year.
“We’ve seen a wide range of events taking place throughout 2013, from humble bake sales to epic sporting challenges and they’ve all been truly inspirational.
“We know the money we’ve raised is going to a very deserving charity and are delighted to be able to help make a difference to the lives of young adult carers across the country.”
Carers Trust fundraiser Dante Harker said: “We’re so grateful to the IT team who have done such amazing things to raise awareness and money for young adult carers.
“From cycling and abseiling to baking and gaming, they have shown fantastic courage and imagination in all they have done.
“The huge amount of money they have raised will help many young people who are often isolated and unsupported in caring for their loved ones.”
There are an estimated 500,000 unpaid young adult carers in the UK. These are 14 to 25 year-olds who care for a family member or friend and who often sacrifice their own future prospects in order to care for their loved ones.
Young adult carers are twice as likely to be not in education, employment, or training.
