A NORTHUMBERLAND peer will be flipping pancakes for charity next month.

Lord Redesdale will compete in this year’s Rehab Parliamentary Pancake Race, which will take place outside the Houses of Parliament on Shrove Tuesday, March 8.

Rehab works with thousands of people with disabilities, older people and others with brain injuries, spinal injuries and mental health difficulties, to enable them to achieve independence and remain active citizens in their communities, and to undertake training and education.

It supports people in rebuilding their lives following an accident or illness through care and supported living, while for others the aim is to gain employment through its social enterprise and community rehabilitation programmes.

Last year’s race was hotly contested with the MPs’ team stealing a march on the Lords’ and media teams in what was a hair-raising sprint to the finish line during the last lap.

Among the members of the media who will compete against Lord Redesdale and colleagues from the Houses of Parliament are the BBC’s Nick Robinson and Adam Boulton, from Sky News.

Lord Redesdale said: “I’m very proud to support Rehab this year by competing in the Parliamentary Pancake Race.

“It’s great fun taking part while at the same time raising awareness of the services that Rehab provides for disabled and excluded people across the UK.”

He added: “It’s been three years since the Lords’ team won the race and so I’m hoping that this year we will once more triumph over the MP and media teams and restore the trophy to its rightful home.”
