An online auction of clothes worn by Suffolk singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran will begin tonight in aid of Suffolk Family Carers.

The Ipswich-based charity was part of a select few organisations chosen to sell the items, many of which have been worn on photo and video shoots and at the star’s concerts.

The auction is already getting a lot of attention online and officials at the charity are hopeful it will help them to raise thousands of pounds.

Anna Haley, fundraiser at Suffolk Family Carers, said: “We are so excited that Ed Sheeran wants to help our charity raise vital funds and this is the perfect way.

“We are already getting a lot of interest online, and hope this will translate into a really successful, busy auction.

“He really is a Suffolk star – donating his clothes with the wish that people will pay large sums to get their hands on them. Of course, his wardrobes will have more space in them too, so everyone’s a winner.”

Among the clothes up for grabs in the auction are hoodies and t-shirts with Sheeran’s distinctive paw-print logo on them.

It goes live via Ebay at 9pm today and bidding will close on May 16 at 9pm.

Given the A-team singer’s global success, it is hoped that bids will come in from fans both at home and abroad to boost the cause, which offers support to family carers.

Anna added:“We expect the online auction of his clothes to cause quite a storm. Ed Sheeran is known and loved across the world, and so we could see bids being made from Toronto to Tokyo as well as Trimley St Mary.”

Other organisations which have benefitted from auctioning off the singer’s clothes include EACH and St Elizabeth Hospice.

Suffolk Family Carers is currently seven months in to its ‘8 days a week’ charity appeal, which aims to raise more than £500,000 to buy and run a mobile family carers centre to reach out to thousands of hidden family carers, aged nine and upwards, in the Suffolk.
