CARERS in Congresbury look set to benefit from some respite as plans for a new group advance.

At a village parish council meeting last week members agreed to give £720 to Crossroads, which offers support, advice and information to carers throughout North Somerset.

The funds will allow carers in the village to meet monthly and can pay for them to take part in activities of their choice.

Speaking at the meeting, Caroline Matthews, from Crossroads, said: “We have about 45 carers on our mailing list from Congresbury which shows there is a need for this group – and that is just the carers we know about.

“People living in smaller areas and villages that are carers often find themselves in isolation and groups like this can make a huge difference to their lives.”

The parish council agreed to fund the meetings for six months and if it proves a success another £720 will be given for a further six months worth of sessions.
